MEET Lafayette Eaton

Experienced Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community

My name is Lafayette Eaton and I am campaigning to be your next East Rochester Village Trustee.

I have lived in East Rochester with my wife and three children for 17 years. When my wife and I moved here from the midwest, we had the option to live in any community in Monroe County, but we chose East Rochester.  We chose East Rochester because it felt the most like home. We fell in love with the small town atmosphere and the convenient location close to St. John Fisher College where we both had found jobs. East Rochester is a hidden gem tucked away in Monroe Country.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from the University of Wyoming (1999) and a Masters of Science in Math, Science and Technology Education from St. John Fisher College (2006).

I have been a Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry at St John Fisher College since 2006.  This is an outstanding local resource for education right next door to our community.  St. John Fisher College already partners with the East Rochester School District on education initiatives and student teaching.  I would like to expand this partnership into the community at large.

Community Involvement

I have enjoyed and had the privilege of  serving the community of East Rochester in many ways over the past 17 years.  This has given me the opportunity to meet and work with many different people throughout the community.   While in these roles I had to seek a diversity of opinion and to build consensus around a common idea.  I valued stakeholder input and would seek to include as many as possible in the decision making process.  This experience has prepared me to become the next Village Trustee for East Rochester.

While serving in many roles, I have had the opportunity to work with a broad spectrum of people.  I value a diversity of views and perspectives and feel strongly in building consensus around the directions and goals of an organization. I have also learned to look at each situation as a unique opportunity to review the practices and policies of an organization.  I am not satisfied with any justification for a specified practice that includes the phrase “that is how we have alway done it”. I am looking for how a specific practice adds value to the program.

In light of the recent events in this country I strongly believe that we need to ensure that all voices are part of the conversations and decisions regarding our community. I want  to increase the number of people involved in local government, create sustainable and equitable economic growth, support access to housing for all residents, and promote programs in environmental sustainability. I truly believe that my years of experience serving the community and my values regarding inclusion and shared decision making will be a good fit for East Rochester Village leadership and I would be honored to serve as Village Trustee. I would very much appreciate your vote on Tuesday November 2nd.
